We also collect information when you submit a query, give us feedback, make a complaint, express interest in working with us to receive or provide surplus food, or enter into a contract or agreement with us. Additionally, data is collected if you have your photograph taken, supply a case study, or open one of our emails.
We may also receive your contact details from third-party platforms when you make a donation (e.g., Enthuse), sign up for a third-party event to raise money for us, or register to support us via Meta or other social media platforms. Where service management and data controllership are transferred to Food for All Africa UK, we may receive your contact details from previous third-party service providers to ensure continuity of your existing services. We may also collect personal information from service providers, the press, search engines, social media (e.g., LinkedIn), and reputable public data sources (e.g., Companies House, the Charity Commission). This information helps us build a profile of your interests, preferences, and demographics, enabling us to tailor our fundraising efforts and communications effectively.
The personal data we collect about you may include your first and last name, postal address, email address, mobile and home phone numbers, and date of birth. We also collect bank account details for processing payments or donations, information regarding your UK taxpayer status to claim Gift Aid, and accident records if you have an incident on our premises. Additionally, we gather data from your visits to our website, such as the pages you visited, the duration of your visit, your IP address, and the browser type you use, primarily through the use of cookies.
Special category data is considered more sensitive than other data. It covers aspects such as your race, health, ethnicity, religion, political beliefs, genetics, biometrics, trade union membership, sex life, and sexual orientation. We only collect this type of information if there is a clear reason to do so, such as asking for health information when you are a volunteer or member of staff, to ensure we can make any reasonable adjustments.
Food for All Africa UK uses the collected data for several key purposes:
Our legal basis for collecting and using your personal information depends on the specific context in which we collect it. We may process your data because we need to perform a contract with you, you have given us consent to do so, the processing is in our legitimate interests (and not overridden by your rights), or we have a legal obligation.

We will retain and use your data to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies. Usage data is generally retained for a shorter period, approximately 50 months, unless used to strengthen security or improve functionality.
Your personal data is normally kept within the UK. However, on certain occasions, it may be transferred to and maintained on computers located outside of the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA). We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy notice. No transfer of your personal data will take place to an organization or a country unless there are adequate controls in place.
